Envisioned by casino magnate Steve Wynn, the Bellagio was designed by architects DeRuyter Butler and Atlandia Design. Its construction began in May 1996 on the site of the former Dunes hotel and casino, with a total cost of $1.6 billion, making it the most expensive hotel built at the time.
